Georgie goes to the hospital
Georgie, the tiny porcupette, born here on the hill in the spring of 2025 had a problem. After 5 months of watching him grow, we discovered he had a problem. What had looked like caked mud on his stomach was actually mange and if I left untreated was likely a death sentence for Georgie. After talking to a wildlife rehabilitator, we learned that it’s fairly easy to trap a porcupine. That is what you see here. Georgie was then taken to the Janet L Swanson Wildlife Hospital at Cornell University where it was discovered he had a heart murmur. Georgie would not be returning here to the hill to live out his days. The good news is Georgie found his forever home, amazingly, at The Bronx Zoo where you can find him today.
